Cyanotypes recording snow showers, rain, solar activity, cloud movement and other atmospheric activity. The process captures changes in weather patterns in the season of Winter in January 2020, during an artist residency at Arteles Creative Center, Haukijarvi, Finland.
Melted snow and rain pool and reflect light to affect a change in the emulsion surface, producing random patterns of blue and white in a patchy, uneven surface coverage. In contrast, strong solar activity transforms the whole surface into dark blue where the light has absorbed most. Snow showers create a mottled, saturated effect.
On a broader scale, the project captures changes in climate and annual global weather patterns, as the snowfall for Finland Winter was unusually low in January 2020, displayed in the blue saturation areas made by intense solar activity.
